A COMMUNIQUÉ REACHED AT THE 5TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
(AGM) OF THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERING TECHNICIANS
(NSET) TAGGED ADO- EKITI 2010 ON 28TH MAY, 2010 HELD AT NULGE COPERATIVE HOUSE.
1. The meeting resolve that the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) should issue a circular to all Engineering based organizations in both private and public sectors on the need to sponsor Conference workshop and seminars.
2. That the Federal and States Government should re-introduce an encourage Technical Education by establishing School with well equipped modern machineries, laboratory equipment and well trained quality staff with years of experience, possibly to recall the retiree on contract basis.
3. Government should, as a matter of urgency mandate Employers of Labour in both private and public sectors to implement Government policy of registering all cadres of Engineering Personnel with their appropriate body COREN as per decree 55 1970 as amended in Decree 27 of 1992 now Act 110 of 2004.
4. Special unified salary structure should be approved for all Registered Engineering Professionals as in the case of Chartered Accountants, Medical Professionals, Teachers, Military Officers and the like.
5. Special attention should be given to the revitalization of ailing and dead industries in Nigeria through realistic method of Revamping them so as to pave way for employment of Engineering Technicians in Nigeria.
6. That COREN should champion the recognition of this Noble profession to pave way for Technological break through in the 21st century.
7. Both private and public sectors of the Economy, need to imbibe maintenance culture of building, Infrastructure, Machineries and Public Utilities so as to curtail failure and collapse of Buildings in Nigeria.
8. Government contracts on Engineering projects should be awarded to certified Registered Engineering Professionals.
9. Government should hasten its policies on private partnership participation of the power sector so as to improve electricity supply in Nigeria.
